Vector Character illustrations for Saas

Solutions & Territoire is a SaaS company specializing in the analysis and strategic support of local authorities across France. During the redesign of their website, I was brought in to create a series of custom character illustrations: one for each user profile the platform serves, bringing a human dimension to an otherwise data-heavy product.

The Brief: Giving a Face to Each User Type

The platform addresses four distinct professional profiles: elected officials, urban planners, economic development officers, and IT directors. Each profile has its own dedicated page on the site, where visitors discover the challenges specific to their role and the solutions the platform offers.

The illustrations were not decorative elements added at the end. They were conceived as narrative tools: each character had to embody a real person, reflect a real situation, and help visitors immediately identify with the content on their page.

Creative Process

The work started in Adobe Fresco for initial sketches and character research, then moved to Illustrator for vector cleanup and optimization. Each character was designed from a detailed brief provided by the Solutions & Territoire team, describing the target profile, their typical context, and the emotional tone appropriate for each page.

Sixteen illustrations were produced in total, covering the four user profiles across multiple contexts and page sections.

Style & Art Direction

The visual approach draws from the contemporary web illustration language of stylized characters, but with a custom finish that distinguishes the brand from generic stock illustration styles. The defining qualities are clean, precise linework for immediate readability, differentiated color areas per profile for quick visual identification, and contextual staging where each character interacts with elements specific to their professional environment.

The result is a system where illustrations serve two simultaneous functions: they humanize the platform by putting real faces on typical users, and they structure the content by making each page more legible, more narrative, and more directly relevant to each audience.

Technical Delivery

All illustrations were delivered as optimized SVG files, lightweight and scalable across every digital format. The vector format ensures perfect rendering from mobile screens to large displays, with no quality loss and minimal impact on page performance.

Result

A coherent visual system of 16 custom illustrations that bring clarity and personality to a data-heavy SaaS product. Each character reinforces the editorial identity of its page, makes the user journey more intuitive, and gives Solutions & Territoire a distinctive visual language that feels both professional and human.
